Lotus Notes Questions |
- What version of Lotus Notes is supported?
We support Lotus Notes Versions 5, 6, 7 and 8.
- Are the Lotus Notes servers affected?
No - not at all. LinkPoint is installed on the client machine. It speaks to the
Notes client, which in turn (as usual) speaks to the server.
- How is the Notes user interface changed?
Minimally. The email integration module is accessed via two methods while in Lotus
Notes. During installation, you are prompted if you want to add items to the users
"actions" menu and / or if you want to add buttons to the user's mail template.
The choice is up to you. Depending on your firms needs and your mail template change
policy, you may choose to omit the buttons and work strictly with the agents. In
either case, the changes are minimal and easy to view, modify or remove.
- Can I utilize the salesforce.com address book in Lotus Notes?
Yes, you can use your salesforce.com contacts and leads to address the recipients
of the email. Alternatively, you may sync your salesforce.com contacts into your
own private Notes name and address book and address them that way also.
- Do I need to install the Notes portion for each "mode" I use - for example Island
Mode, Office Mode etc.?
Yes. You have two choices here. You can either 1) replicate your databases between
the various modes. 2) since the Notes component of LinkPoint for salesforce is simply
a button click, it may be quicker to install it for each mode that you use. The
choice is yours.
- Does email integration of LinkPoint work in Notes "Island Mode"?

LinkPoint Sync Questions |
- During data synchronization, can I control the direction of data flow? (i.e. Can
I prevent data from being written to either salesforce.com and/or Lotus Notes?)
Yes and No. By default, we shuttle data between both systems. However, via the configuration
screens, you may change it so data is moved in only one direction (i.e Notes to
salesforce or salesforce to Notes). During the actual synchronization process, the
only time you may choose the direction of the update is when the record in question
was changed on both systems since the last synchronization. Otherwise, LinkPoint
copies the newer version to the older.
- Which data is synchronized between Lotus Notes and salesforce.com?
We synchronize tasks, contacts and calendar items. From Lotus Notes we read only
items that have a category of "salesforce.com" and are not marked as private. From
salesforce.com we read all rows you have access to via salesforce security mechanism.
(Note: The Notes category is case sensitive but can be changed or removed via the
configuration screens)
- Must I be connected to the network to perform the Sync?
Yes. In order to get the freshest salesforce.com data, a network connection is required.
For that reason, you may want to sync your data on a regular basis especially before
you leave for Notes "Island mode".
- If I update a repeating task or calendar item on salesforce.com. How is the Lotus
Notes version affected?
Only the exact date you change is replicated back to Lotus Notes. In other words,
changes to repeating items from salesforce.com do not affect the whole series -
just the date you change. To affect the whole series, you should make the change
in Lotus Notes.
- We have customized our Notes forms (task, calendar, email) with extra fields. Will
LinkPoint still work and will it sync those fields?
Out of the box, LinkPoint will not synchronize those extra fields. However, via
the configuration screens, you may change LinkPoint to replicate those extra new
fields between systems.

Troubleshooting Questions and Helpful Tips |
- I just installed LinkPoint and performed my first Synchronization. However, none
of my Lotus Notes information was sent to salesforce.com. Why?
By default, LinkPoint only considers Notes items that have a category of "salesforce.com".
When it read your current Notes data, none of the entries had a salesforce.com category,
so none were selected for replication. You can either add the "salesforce.com" category
to your existing work or you may remove the category filter using the Quick Configuration
Screen. Note though that removing the filter will copy ALL your entries to salesforce.com.
Including items that you may not want copied

- When I try to use LinkPoint, I get this message - "Could not connect to salesforce.com

- When I attempt to Syncronize my data, the system is reporting the following: "Socket
Error #10060 Connection time out". Whats wrong?
LinkPoint cannot establish a network connection with salesforce.com This could be
due to many reasons. However, the most common are The "proxy" information in the
LinkPoint Quick Configuration is incorrectly configured. These fields, if used by
your firm vary from company to company. So, there is no set answer. The best thing
to do is compare your proxy configuration values against another user that can synchronize
properly. Alternatively, contact your network or internal salesforce.com administrator
for further help. Your basic internet connectivity may be "down" for some reason.
Can you access the internet at all via your web browser? If not, please contact
your network administrator. As stated in the above sentence - "this could be due
to many reasons". Sometimes, this issue is best resolved with a support WebEx session
between you and and your LinkPoint360 support person. As always, feel free to contact
